Gluten free cafes in Wollongong
The best gluten free cafes in and around Wollongong, with coeliac safety details.
Last updated March 2024
Wollongong is home to many great cafes, pubs and restaurants but finding one that’s safe for coeliacs and gluten intolerant people can be an uphill battle. As I explore more of Wollongong, I’m hoping to add to this guide.
If you know of a place I should include, get in touch!
GF Eats, Corrimal

GF Eats has got to be one of my favourite gluten free cafes. The team here do an incredible job of creating GF versions of the foods coeliacs know, love and miss. There’s so much on offer; they fresh cook a bunch of savoury items and fresh bake a heap of sweets daily. Savoury items include; burgers (chicken, beef, fish, vege — you name it, they’ve got it), battered or crumbed fish & chips, loaded fries, wedges and so much more.
Sweet items include; Portuguese tarts, apple turnovers, nutella donuts, brownies, cookies, lemon tarts, caramel cheesecake and more.
I’ve been a few times and tried different things (burgers, fish & chips, sweets) and every time it absolutely delivers. It’s also very reasonably priced; meals can be anywhere between $10-$20 depending on what you get. The sweet items are around $6-$10 each.
GF Eats is a fully gluten free cafe so coeliacs can eat with peace of mind. They also offer plenty of options for other dietary requirements like dairy free, nut free, soy free, egg free, etc. Highly recommend stopping by here.
To note: This is a takeaway shop with no seating so you’re best to pick up your food and enjoy at the beach (2 min drive away).
Bistro on Beaton, Wollongong
Bistro on Beaton in Gwynneville, Wollongong is a recent discovery for me, but I already know I’ll be heading back multiple times.
Pubs are normally a grim scene for coeliacs with nothing but a sad crouton-less salad as the only option. This time round, going to the Bistro on Beaton felt like my own slice of heaven. This pub is fully gluten free but you wouldn’t know it by the taste of the food. It included all the pub favourites; chicken schnitzel, parmi, steak and gravy, a few pastas and salads.
There’s plenty to choose from and it’s all safe to eat. Winner winner.
Moore St General, Bulli
Moore St General is a cafe in Bulli serving up fresh, locally made goods. The menu is a bit confusing as it’s not actually labelled but the staff were happy to let me know what was gluten free / could be made gluten free. Essentially, they have gluten free bread and most other things you can eyeball by ingredient, so there’s a bit of variety. I also noticed gluten free options in the cake display but didn’t get to try any on this visit.
I ordered the fruit toast with house-made ricotta and honey. They used Noni’s fruit toast which was delicious — texture was great, not too dense and had a good balance of flavours. The ricotta, honey and strawberries made it a good mix of sweet and savoury. I’ll definitely be back to try some sweets from the cake display.
Price wise, it was $18 for this + $5.40 for a large coffee.
