Gluten free cafes in Sydney

A list of the best gluten free cafes in and around Sydney, with coeliac safety details.

Sydney is full of delicious cafes but finding one that caters to the gluten free diet and does it well is not always easy. The trial and error process can be time consuming and disappointing so I’ve created a guide with the best gluten free cafes in and around Sydney that I’ve found so far. For the coeliacs, I’ve included information about their food handling processes so you can know if it’s safe enough for you.

As always, be sure to make your dietary requirement known to staff for your own safety.

Know of more I should include? I’d love to hear from you. Reach out via Instagram or email - links below.

Sebastien Sans Gluten, Leichhardt

This is a 100% gluten free bakery. It even has some vegan and dairy free options if that’s up your alley.

If you’ve been missing croissants, cakes, fruit danishes, lemon meringue tarts and more, then this bakery is for you. Sebastien Sans Gluten has a fantastic range of sweet and savoury baked goods, think; pies, sausage rolls, ham & cheese croissants, quiche, pain au chocolat, eclairs, tarts and plenty more.

Given it’s a fully gluten free bakery, coeliacs can eat fear free. We love to see it.

Price wise, it’s pretty spendy — most things cost between $11 - $14 each — but a lot of work goes into these goods and it shows. I think it’s worth every cent for that flaky pastry.

Wholegreen Bakery, Sydney CBD

Wholegreen Bakery is another fully gluten free cafe with fantastic sweet and savoury options. They’ve got pies, sausage rolls, sourdough, baguettes, cinnamon scrolls, Portuguese tarts, almond croissants and more.

The pork & fennel sausage roll is a personal fave; it comes with a tomato relish and is the perfect lunch, particularly in winter. On the sweet front, I regularly visit the CBD cafe for Portuguese tart. It’s generous in size and tastes delicious.

In terms of pricing, it’s about what you’d expect for a gluten free cafe. The sausage roll was $11.50, and the cinnamon scroll was $9. There are cheaper items available, like cakes and brownies around the $5 mark.

If you don’t feel like venturing into the CBD then they’ve also got cafes in Alexandria & Bondi.

Nutie, Dulwich HIll

This is a 100% gluten free and vegetarian bakery with a few dairy free and vegan options available too.

I visited recently and it was so hard to pick what to eat - everything looked incredible. I settled on the vegan sausage roll and the custard flan danish. Both were excellent!

I usually steer clear of vegan things that seem like they’d have some weird fake meat in them but that wasn’t the case here at all. It was a veggie packed roll in the most delicious, flaky pastry - no weird fake meat to be found.

The caramel flan pastry was like something out of a dream. Two desserts in one? Sign. Me. Up. 10/10, no notes.

In terms of affordability, both of those items cost me just under $20 which I thought was excellent, especially given the high quality. Also 20 bucks for lunch + dessert seems like a total bargain. Love love loved this cafe.

15Cenchi, Town Hall & Darling Square

15Cenchi has a range of gluten-free Japanese desserts and everything I’ve tried from here has been incredible. The food is 100% gluten free and as far as I’m aware, the only room for cross contamination is with their oat milk if you’re ordering a coffee.

I frequently get cravings for the original cheese purin - this is a silky purin cheesecake, topped with burnt caramel sauce. I really don’t need to say more, just go eat it - you won’t regret a thing.

Another must-try is their burnt basque cheesecake. This is available in a few flavours and there’s often a seasonal special too. It’s creamy, silky and delicious.
